One of the rising names in Australia's electronic music scene, producer/vocalist Kid Fiction turned to synthesisers after years spent busking in roots reggae bands in his hometown of Sydney. Blending a wide variety of musical influences from Soulful Dub and Afrobeat to Footwork, Future Beats and Warp-styled IDM, his music is full of animation, melody and memory. Grounded in roots but with eyes to the horizon.
Kid Fiction's path to electronic music began in his first year of high school. At the time playing in punk/metal bands, he began experimenting with music software, finding demo versions of early 2000s staples like ReBirth, Acid, Fruity Loops. Unable to save the work he made, he would would unplug the family HiFi system and set it up next to the computer so he could record one take jams to cassette.
Almost 20 years later Kid Fiction released his debut EP, arriving to widespread acclaim from tastemakers like XLR8R, Indie Shuffle, Kaltblut, and Pilerats and earning radio ads from Double J & Unearthed in Australia and KCSS Radio in California. RNGLDR Magazine described it as "unlike anything we've ever heard... Kid Fiction has become the sole designer of his own unreplicated sound".
The release saw him taking his live show across the waters for his first European tour, with dates through the UK, Germany, Switzerland and Eastern Europe, including stops at The Sofar Sounds HQ in London and a special live motion capture set from The Box at Ministry Of Sound, which was broadcast live for the first time in VR.
The follow up EP “Unburdened” released in 2019 on Danish pop powerhouse GL Music. Taking a turn towards the introspective, Unburdened was a raw and elemental tangle of moody textures and expansive soundscapes that saw him exploring deeper lyrical terrain.
